Is Richmond a "Speedway", or a "Short Track"?

By Joey Gucciardo | 9:40 AM E.T.

We all know Richmond International Raceway. I have always thought of it as the "Mini DAYTONA", since it is a "D"-Shaped Oval track, the same size as DAYTONA International Speedway, just smaller. So, is Richmond a short track, or a speedway.

The two shortest tracks in NASCAR are Bristol Motor Speedway, and the famous Martinsville Speedway. Both tracks are at least 1/2 of a mile long. I compared Richmond to DAYTONA, DAYTONA being a 2.5 mile track. Richmond is only 3/4 of a mile long, and has still gained a reputation for having some of the finest racing in NASCAR.

So, is Richmond a short track, or a speedway. I'd have to say that it's a mix of both. It has the shape of a Speedway, but the size of a slightly larger short track.
