Greg Ives to Crew Chief Dale Earnhardt JR. in 2015

Dale Earnhardt JR. has found a new crew chief to replace Steve Letarte, who will be leaving to join the NBC Broadcasting team for NASCAR in 2015.

By Joey Gucciardo | July 31st, 2014 - 9:29 AM E.T.

Steve Letarte, Dale Earnhardt JR.'s current crew chief, has been with JR. for four years now. Letarte will be leaving to join the NBC Sports broadcasting team in 2015.

Who will replace him?

Greg Ives.

Ives was the race engineer of the No. 48 team of Jimmie Johnson when Johnson won five championships in a row in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2006-2010. Ives moved from the 48 team to JR. Motorsports in 2013. He has five JRM wins, including some with Chase Elliott, the current Nationwide Series points leader.

"I knew he was in position to be groomed in this role," Earnhardt said. "I've always admired his understanding of how a car works and his attention to detail. His demeanor and personality are very easygoing, and he's a fun guy to be around. We've had a great working relationship for several years. The best part is he knows what the 48-88 shop is about and the mentality there and how the work goes on. He has a great rapport with not only Chad, but he's worked with a lot of those guys in the past.

Gordon kisses the bricks at the Brickyard

JEFF GORDON WINS AT INDIANAPOLIS MOTOT SPEEDWAY ON THE 20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST NASCAR RACE AT THE BRICKYARD

By JOEY GUCCIARDO | 4:14 PM E.T.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA--- It looks as if the drive for a fifth championship is alive again for Jeff Gordon.

Jeff won at the Brickyard today with Kyle Busch right behind him. This was the fifth time that Jeff won at the track.

There was a competition caution on lap 20 due to the rain the night before. Many pit, but others, like Joey Logano, who now had the lead, stayed out on the race track. Afterward, green flag pit stops began.

During a Danica Patrick's stop during those Green Flag Pit Stops, Danica exited pit road with her car smoking a whole lot. When she left pit road, the caution was out because Danica's car broke down on a bad spot on the track. "What do I do?", she said over her team radio.

Before this race started, it was announced that Carl Edwards would be leaving Roush Fenway Racing at the end of the 2014 season.

In the end of a hectic day at the Brickyard, Jeff Gordon kissed the bricks for a fifth time at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Parting Ways after 2014: Edwards and RFR

CARL EDWARDS AND ROUSH FENWAY RACING WILL NOT BE TOGETHER IN 2015

By Joey Gucciardo: 12:13 PM E.T.

ROUSH Fenway Racing has announced their 2015 lineup in the Sprint Cup Series.

Ricky Stenhouse JR. - No. 17 Ford
Greg Biffle - No. 16 Ford
Trevor Bayne - No. 6 Ford

But, where's Carl Edwards, a two-time winner so far this season (Bristol, Sonoma)?

Edwards has been with ROUSH Fenway Racing since 2003, and started driving the No. 99 car for ROUSH in 2004. He has 67 wins in NASCAR's three premier series.

Greg Biffle and Ricky Stenhouse JR. will be returning to RFR next year, and Trevor Bayne will be moving up from the Nationwide Series to a full-time Cup Series ride. Bayne was the 2011 DAYTONA 500.

As for Edwards, yeah, he's leaving.

ROUSH Fenway Racing Co-Owner Roush Fenway said:

"I will always be thankful for Carl's contribution and the role he played in Many Roush Fenway wins and championships. We wish him well for the future. In the meantime, we are excited about continuing our quest for a championship with Carl and the No. 99 team in 2014."

As for Trevor Bayne, ROUSH Officials announced previously that his primary sponsor will be AdvoCare in the No. 6 car.

Sprint Cup and Nationwide at Eldora?

Can NASCAR's top two elite series race on the dirt of Eldora Speedway?

By Joey Gucciardo | 1:29 PM E.T.

We all know that Darrell "Bubba" Wallace JR. won the CarCash MudSummer Classic on the dirt of Eldora Speedway this past Wednesday night. Austin Dillon won the inaugural MudSummer Classic last year. What about the possibility of Cup and Nationwide cars on the dirt.

This all started when one of our affiliates @J_JohnsonFans48 wrote the following tweet on Twitter:
So, we ask the question: Is this possible?

The first problem with this that I can think of off the top of my head is the splitters on the cars. The splitter is the part of the car on the very bottom of the fromt of the car that is in front of the front wheels. It is so close to the ground, and if there is any damage to it, the car can suffer HUGE aerodynamic issues. The splitter would be grinding and being damaged on the dirt of the track, and the splitter might come off. NASCAR would have to remove the splitter, or at least raise the body of the car.

Another issue is the setup of the cars. I'm no mechanic, but I think it is pretty obvious that for the Camping World Truck Series to race on dirt, the way the truck looks, drives, and handles must be completely different than usual. Trucks, Nationwide, and Cup cars each have different physics. To find a way for Nationwide and Cup series cars to race on dirt would have to take a LOT of experimenting, designing, car-testing, and safety enhancements. Also, car inspections would have to be different since the cars would have to be changed.

If NASCAR can allow these changes, and they are successful in making them, you could see the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series on the dirt.

A charging Kyle Larson couldn't stop Darrell Wallace JR.

Larson was always upset about finishing second in this race last year to Austin Dillon, who drove the No. 2 Americal Ethanol truck in tonight's CarCash MudSummer Classic.

In fact, Larson was scraping the wall, and hard too. Something broke on his truck that not just lost him the win, but also a 2nd second place finish in a row at the historic Eldora Speedway.

Erik Jones, driving the No. 51 Toyota Tundra for KB Motorsports (Kyle Busch Motorsports) started first because he won the first Heat race of the night.

Jeb Burton, driving the No. 13 ThorSport Motorsports truck, won the second Heat race.

Elliott gets win No. 3 at ChicagoLand Speedway!

By Joey Gucciardo
With many NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars not in this race (Kyle arson and Kasey Kahne were the only two Sprint Cup Series drivers in this race), a Nationwide Series driver won it all.

Sam Hornish JR. had some engine problems on lap 8.

On lap 123, Kyle Larson got loose while in the lead, and Chase took complete advantage of that stealing the lead from him. Chase would go on to win.

Keselowski wins at New Hampshire

By Joey Gucciardo

LOUDON, NH--- Geez, what a race...

It all started on lap 8, when Jimmie Johnson came down pit road with a tire issue. TNT Network went to commercial break, when the break was over, Johnson's car was destroyed.

There were several other problems, like Jeff Gordon running out of fuel on the final caution. Then, on that restart for the first Green White Checkered attempt, Kevin Harvick ran out of fuel

@Keselowski won, winning both the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Sprint Cup series races this weekend, both at NHMS (New Hampshire Motor Speedway.)

The Sprint Cup series stars have off this coming weekend, but will return for the annual race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Aric Almirola wins Coke Zero 400

By Joey Gucciardo -4:07 PM E.T.
DAYTONA BEACH, FL--- In a race that had not everything crazy we have seen, but had two big ones, plenty of rain, and even underdog drivers starting in the front of the field, Aric Almirola stood on top to win the Coke Zero 400 at DAYTONA International Speedway.

The first wreck involved many. Jeff Gordon took the blame for getting loose, but many fans have been blaming Ricky Stenhouse Jr. for starting it.

Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt JR., Jeff Gordon, Ricky Stenhouse JR., Tony Stewart, basically some more drivers that are still meant to snatch a win this season, were involved in this wreck.

Then, terror struck twice. Another huge wreck, this time, sending Kyle Busch upside down in his No. 18 M&M's Toyota Camry.

But Almirola stood out on top.
