But now, he rallied back with a win today at Richmond Int'l Raceway.
Busch had a lot of pressure from his Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Kevin Harvick, who finished 2nd, but had been chasing after Hamlin the whole race.
Jimmie Johnson finished 3rd, followed by Jamie McMurray in 4th, and Joey Logano to round out the Top-5.
Busch led a personal career-high of 291 laps today. "This was a team win." Busch said over the team radio after the race.
Logano, who started on the pole, led the first 94 laps of this race.
Chase Elliott, who made his second-career Sprint Cup Series start, finished in 16th.
Denny Hamlin had a lot of lost ground in this race, en route to a 22nd place finish.
Kasey Kahne finished 6th, followed by Matt Kenseth, followed by Jeff Gordon, Clibt Bowyer and Martin Truex JR. to round out the Top-10.
