Kyle Busch won his 89th career NASCAR XFINITY Series race on Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Eleven more and he’s done in the series for good.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, who has 175 career wins in NASCAR’s three national series, told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio host Claire B. Lang he planned to stop racing in the NASCAR XFINITY Series once he hits win No. 100.
He has long dominated the XFINITY Series, scoring at least 10 wins in a season on four different occasions. Mark Martin, who is second on the series’ all-time wins list, has 49 career series victories … 40 fewer than “Rowdy.”
“Retirement is fast approaching, so I’m looking forward to that,” Busch quipped before explaining further. “When I get to 100 XFINITY wins, I’m done with XFINITY. So my retirement with XFINITY is fast approaching.”
Busch has four XFINITY Series races remaining this season; participation guidelines for 2018 have not yet been announced, but it’s conceivable Busch could reach 100 wins in 2018 or 2019.
“I’ll do it on occasion for Joe (Gibbs) if he asks me as a favor because he wants to assess where his team’s at, but other than that I’m done,” Busch said.
