Drew Herring earns hard fought 20th place finish in Phoenix

AVONDALE, AZ -- Drew Herring welcomed the opportunity to return to the No. 24 Young Guns Toyota for the second week in a row and had his sights set on helping the JGL Racing team continue on its path of improvement.  The Benson, North Carolina native battled some handling and heat conditions to come home with a hard fought 20th place finish in the running of the DC Solar 200 at the Phoenix International Raceway.

"I really appreciate the opportunity given to me by JGL Racing the last two weeks," said Herring.  "We were never really where we wanted to be with the car but we made the most out of it.  Even with issues it looked like we were going to have a shot at a top-10 finish.  Our adjustments were all in the right direction and we kept getting faster throughout the race.  Unfortunately I overstepped the limit a little there in turn three late in the race and that set us back."

Drew would start the 200-lap event from the 14th position as a result of his qualifying effort earlier in the day.  The first segment of the race would find Herring battle a tight condition as he fought to maintain track position.  A much-needed trip down pit road after the first segment allowed the JGL Racing crew to make some much needed adjustments which proved helpful in the second segment.

Herring would continue to run inside the top-20 until finding trouble late in the race.  While racing under a fellow competitor on lap 168, Drew would lose control of the No. 24 Young Guns Toyota and harmlessly spin in turns three and four.  A trip down pit road under the caution allowed for four tires and a late charge to the finish.

"I think we learned a good amount over the last two weeks," added Drew.  "I am confident that the speed we showed was just part of what the guys at JGL Racing are capable of.  We know what needs work and I only see improvement from here on for these guys.  Hopefully I can get back behind the wheel later this year and get the finishes we are capable of."

The JGL Racing team will next head to Auto Club Speedway for the running of the XFINITY 300 with Corey LaJoie returning to the seat of the No. 24 Toyota.  The fifth race of the NASCAR XFINITY Series season will be Saturday March 25th and can be seen LIVE on FOX Sports 1 at 4:00 pm ET.  It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90
