Alon Day To Race In NXS At Mid-Ohio and Road America

Alon Day’s racing career will take another step on August 13, when the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series driver will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Mid-Ohio for the first of a two-event campaign with MBM Motorsports that will also include the August 27 race at Road America. Day will be the 14th NWES driver to take advantage of the unique channel built by NWES for its drivers to race in the USA and he also benefits from exposure created by the NASCAR Next program. He will take this experience as a part of his learning process to write a new chapter in his racing career.

“I am really excited about this debut and I want to thank all the sponsors supporting me and everybody who worked so hard to give me this opportunity to race at such a high level and make this dream come true,” said the 24-year-old Tel Aviv resident. “There is a lot to learn and I am confident that debuting on a road course will give me a good chance to learn quickly and get a positive result under the checkered flag.”

“We are really happy and proud for Alon ! He is a talented driver and a great guy. This is the American dream, where everything is possible. It shows what the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and its partners are constantly working to deliver: opportunities for European drivers to build themselves a NASCAR career in the US,” said Jerome Galpin, NASCAR Whelen Euro Series President / CEO. “Racing in NWES help drivers develop towards racing as professionals and meet the right people to help their careers. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series is definitely one of the best choice in Europe to start or re-orientate a professional racing career.”

Day made his NASCAR debut in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series in 2015, rapidly affirming as a title contender. He got his first podium finish by mid-season and his potential exploded in the playoffs, in which he took two poles and won three races out of four on the way to a Junior Trophy triumph and the second place overall in the Championship.

His EuroNASCAR success brought him in the spotlight at a global level and while continuing to race in NWES and gathering two wins and four top-5s in 2016, he became the first ever driver coming from outside North America to be selected for the NASCAR Next, the program designed by NASCAR to showcase the future stars of the sport. The huge amount of international exposure played a key role to bring Day this proposal for his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut, exemplifying the career opportunities available for drivers joining the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.

“I have never been to Mid-Ohio and I know it is a really challenging track, but I am working very hard to be at my best come August and racing in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series will be of great help,” said the Israeli, who will count on his NWES experience to bring a good result to the team, which scored a 30th place as best result of the season with the #40 car. “Everything will be new and with the team we will do our best to get the most of the race. It will be longer than usual for me, so I am training hard to be in the best shape and I am working on the simulator to get to know the track.”

After this summer NASCAR XFinity Series program, the Israeli will move back to Europe to focus on the hunt for the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series title beginning on September 17-18 in Italy with the Semi Finals at the Adria International Raceway.
