Late-Race Incident Relegates Bayne to 30th-Place Finish in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 25, 2016) – Trevor Bayne, driver of the No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Fusion, was involved in an incident with two laps remaining in regulation on Sunday afternoon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, damaging the right-rear and ultimately leading to a 30th-place finish.

“We didn’t finish where we should have today,” said Bayne after the race. “I hate that that deal happened there down the backstretch. But I want to thank all of my guys for their work throughout this entire weekend in this heat. Everyone definitely needed some Rehydrate for sure. We’ll rebound from this next week in Pocono and get a solid finish with our AdvoCare Ford.”

Bayne took the green flag from the 20th position after advancing to the second round of knockout qualifying on Saturday. From the start of the race Bayne reported to crew chief Matt Puccia that the AdvoCare Ford was tight through the middle of the corner, especially in traffic. Despite this handling condition, Bayne maintained his top-20 track position throughout the first cycle of green flag pit stops and raced his way up to 18th before the caution came out on Lap 53.

Bayne took the Lap 58 restart from 17th and continued to fight for position until the second round of green flag pit stops came on Lap 85. After returning to the track in 20th following the stop, Bayne reported that the AdvoCare Ford was still tight through the center of the corner. This tight-handling condition ultimately led to the Knoxville, Tenn. native losing a lap to the race leader just after the 100-Lap mark as a long green flag run progressed.

Despite being a lap down Bayne continued to battle for position inside the top 20 before getting shuffled back to 21st just prior to the caution coming out once again on Lap 149. Then, Bayne was involved in an incident following a Lap 158 restart coming off of the second corner that sent the AdvoCare Ford sliding into the inside retaining wall.

After pitting several times for repairs Bayne crossed the finish line for the final time in the 30th position.

Next up for the NSCS is Pocono Raceway on Sunday, July 31.
