Drew Herring Scores Solid 12th Place Finish in Iowa

NEWTON, IOWA (July 31, 2016) – Drew Herring has been very successful in NASCAR XFINITY Series competition at Iowa Speedway and Saturday night he continued that trend. Herring would once again join the JGL Racing organization as he piloted their No. 28 Toyota to a solid 12th place finish in the running of the US Cellular 250 at the Newton, Iowa track.

“Our No. 28 Toyota was pretty strong right off the trailer on Friday,” said Herring.  “We got in a decent qualifying run which had us starting towards the front.  On the track we were pretty good but unfortunately we lost too many valuable spots on pit road.  I think at worst we had an eighthplace car and maybe even a top-five one.  When we lost those positions on pit road I was forced to really use my stuff up to try and gain them back which ultimately prevented us from getting the finish we deserved.”

Drew would start the 250-lap event from the ninth position as a result of his strong qualifying effort.  The early portion of the race would see the No. 28 Toyota battle inside the top-10 while battling a loose in and tight in the center condition.  A trip down pit road would allow for some key adjustments however the loss of valuable track position would stall the progress.

The second half of the event would see Herring flex his muscles as he would power his way solidly back inside the top-10.  The last caution of the day would once again prove costly with the pit stop losing the No. 28 Toyota five valuable spots.  Herring would do all that he could to gain back the spots but in doing so would be forced to use up his tires.  In the end, Drew would settle for a solid 12th place finish with thoughts of what could have been a much better outcome.

“With this being a stand along event the team didn’t have their normal pit crew here this weekend,” added Drew.  “I want to thank James Whitener (owner) and everyone at JGL Racing for this opportunity to drive for them once again.  They gave me a strong race car this week and I think it showed on the track.  Hopefully I will get another opportunity at some point in the future.”

The NASCAR XFINITY Series will next head to Watkins Glen International for the first road course event of the season. The running of the Zippo 200 will be Saturday August 6th and can be seen LIVE on CNBC and NBC Sports Live Extra online at 2:00 pm ET.  It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
