Both the teams recieced written warnings and a P1 penalty this past weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

MWR Co-Owner Buys Interest in CGR

UNB! NETWORK STAFF REPORT

Rob Kauffmann, co-owner of Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR), has agreed to buy a piece of interest in Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGR).

According to a statement from MWR, both the teams "will continue to operate seperately and compete against each other for the remainder of the 2015 season."

"They are also currently evaluating ways to field the most competitive race teams possible to provide an excellent platform for their partners and employees for the 2016 season and beyond." the MWR statement went on to say.

Drivers React To Bristol Testing

BRISTOL, TENNESSEE--- Over 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams are having open tests at Bristol Motor Speedway this week. The Sprint Cup stars head to the track on August 22nd, 2015 for the IRWIN Tools Night Race.
"The surface here doesn't change a lot, but the groove changes a lot," said Carl Edwards during a break in the session. "People end up racing right up against the fence.

"We're not really able to do that today. Basically, this is like the first practice session. ---- When we show up in August, the race track will be like this."

Along with Edwards, the other 11 drivers (and teams) testing are, Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, Aric Almorola, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Paul Menard, David Ragan, Jamie McMurray, Danica Patrick, Travis Kvapil, Kasey Kahne, and Landon Cassill.

Logano and Kahne are previous Cup Series winners at Bristol.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has not only never won at Bristol, but he has also never won a Sprint Cup Series race.

Stenhouse was Sprint Cup Rookie-Of-The-Year in 2013.

"Honestly, being 18th or 19th in points or where we are, if you don't have a win, you're still outside (the Chase hunt)," Stenhouse said. "I could be eight spots better and it really wouldn't do me any good other than obviously we're getting better finishes, better results."

The Ultimate NASCAR Blog will have complete coverage of this open testing at Bristol this week.

Ryan Blaney hasn't forgotten Indy XFINITY race.

UNB! NETWORK STAFF REPORT

Ryan Blaney has the win locked in.

He's leading on the last lap of the 2015 Lilly Diabetes 250 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

But here comes Kyle Busch.

Busch, who started 1st in the race, makes a last-lap pass on Blaney. Busch would win the event, and would lead 53 of the scheduled 100 laps in the race.

Blaney said that he kept having flashbacks of the miscue during the race that cost him the win in his mind that Saturday night.

"I kept having flashbacks of Turn 2 and that's not what you want to do," Blaney said during a small break during Sprint Cup Seriesvtesting at Bristol. "Especially when you have a Cup race the next day; especially when it's the Brickyard, your Brickyard debut.

The Wood Brothers Racing driver in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series said that he "didn't sleep a lot Saturday night."

That Brickyard 400 the next day, Blaney managed to forget all about the incident and fight back to a 12th place finish.

"I thought about it all the way up until I got in the race car (for the Brickyard on Sunday)," the Sprint Cup rookie said. "Then I forgot all about it."

"You just have to put that stuff in the back of your mind and forget all about it," Blaney said. "The support that not only Team Penske showed me, but the Wood Brothers and other competitors has really helped me out.

"You can only take away the learning experience from it, learn not to do that the next time." Blaney also said.

Smoke diminishes at Indy

As a Tony Stewart fan I was perplexed by the amount of pit stops that occurred on the #14 team near the end of the Brickyard 400 last Sunday. Stewart was running in the top-5 & then later in the race in the top-10. Smoke's Crew Chief Chad Johnston called in Stewart & said they were wanting to gain "track position" in order to win the race. But after the last pit stop there was no way Stewart would've been able to gain any more positions as he was listed as 28th when the checkered flag dropped. It left a lot of Stewart's fans upset & calling for him to fire his Crew Chief. We're headed to Pocono this weekend where Stewart has won twice ('03 & '09). Will Smoke rise or fall in Pocono?

No. 98 team penalized.

The No. 98 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team has been given a P3 level penalty for having weights falling off car during inspection on July 24th, 2015. Crew chief Scott Eggleston fined $25,000, and suspended for the next race. Car chief Kevin Eagle fined 15 championship owner points, and placed on NASCAR probation until December 31st, 2015.

Martin-McClure Racing Established
NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers Hal Martin and Eric McClure have started a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East team called "Martin-McClure Racing" that will debut this weekend with Chad Finchum behind the wheel of the team's car. Finchum was last season's NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (Modifieds) champion.

Pocono Rebounds?
Jeff Gordon had a heartbreaking final Brickyard 400. But this weeken, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Pocono, where Gordon has won six times in his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series career. Jimmie Johnson, who finished 15th in the same Bricjyard 400 this past weekend, is a three-time winner at Pocono. The question here is if both of these drivers can rebound.

Busch Makes Trucks Return
Kyle Busch is expected to return to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series racing this weekend at Pocono Raceway. He was out of the series for three months, due to a leg injury he suffered early in the season. Busch had returned to XFINITY Series and Sprint Cup Series racing, and has had plenty of success.

Eric McClure and Hal Martin form K&N Pro Series team

UNB! NETWORK STAFF REPORT

NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers Eric McClure and Hal Martin have established their own NASCAR K&N Pro Series East team.

Martin-McClure Racing will debut with Chad Finchum behind the wheel of the No. 39 car at Iowa Speedway this weekend.

"This team is something Eric and I have discussed in great depth over the past few months and timing is right for us to enter competition and lay the foundation for an organization the will meet the long term goals we've laid out," Martin said in a team release. "It's an opportunity for us to give back to the sport we love, while providing a competitive and professional environment for young drivers as they transition from their respective background to the NASCAR national series."

"Since I started driving go-karts at age 6, I've always wanted to compete as a driver in the top levels of NASCAR," Finchum said. "This is a step forward in achieving that goal. It's hard to put into words what this opportunity means to me, but I think competing for MMR is a great fit. I've never been to Iowa Speedway, but I'm looking forward to getting there and getting on track."

Finchum, 20, has 10 K&N starts, which all came in part-time schedules since 2011. He also won last season's NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (Modifieds) championship.
