Here are some notes and facts on the tires that the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will use this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway:
NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES:
Tire: Goodyear "Support Our Troops" Speedway Radials
Set limits:
All-Star: 11 sets for the event;
Showdown: 7 sets for the event (teams that transfer to All-Star race get an additional 4 sets)
Tire Codes:
Left-side -- D-4698; Right-side -- D-4700
Tire Circumference:
Left-side -- 87.44 in. (2,221 mm); Right-side -- 88.50 in. (2,248 mm)
Minimum Recommended Inflation:
Left Front -- 25 psi; Left Rear -- 25 psi;
Right Front -- 54 psi; Right Rear -- 50 psi
Notes: Teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck Series will run completely different tire set-ups at Charlotte this week . . . these are two new tire codes for Sprint Cup teams . . . compared to what was run at Charlotte last year, both of these tires have an updated construction to bring them into line with what is run at other speedways . . . this left-side code (D-4698) features a compound change for more grip . . . this right-side code (D-4700) is a single tread compound tire which offers more grip than either of the two compounds run on Goodyear's multi-zone tread tire run at Charlotte last year . . . this tire set-up came out of a Goodyear test at Charlotte on March 8-9 . . . drivers participating in that test were Austin Dillon, Jamie McMurray, Brian Scott and Martin Truex Jr. . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Charlotte . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES:
Tire: Goodyear "Support Our Troops" Speedway Radials
Set limits: 7 sets for the event
Tire Codes: Left-side -- D-4688; Right-side -- D-4694
Tire Circumference: Left-side -- 87.56 in. (2,224 mm); Right-side -- 88.39 in. (2,245 mm)
Minimum Recommended Inflation:
Left Front -- 26 psi; Left Rear -- 26 psi;
Right Front -- 54 psi; Right Rear -- 50 psi
Notes: Teams in the NASCAR Camping World Truck and Sprint Cup Series will run completely different tire set-ups at Charlotte this week . . . these are two new tire codes for Camping World Truck teams . . . compared to what was run at Charlotte last year, this left-side code (D-4688) features a construction change (bring into line with other speedways) and a compound change (more grip) . . . like the 2015 Charlotte tire, this right-side code (D-4694) is a multi-zone tread tire, which features two different compounds on the same tire - one on the inboard two inches (Endurance Zone) and one on the outboard 10 inches (Traction Zone) . . . the difference from last year is a change to the compound on the outboard (more grip) . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Charlotte . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
