Pocono / Iowa Notes (August 2015)

"UNB! Network" Staff Report //////NASCAR

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (Windows 10 400)
Race Winner: Matt Kenseth
Track: Pocono Raceway

Basic Notes:
  • Joey Logano was conserving fuel and in the lead with three laps to go when he ran out of fuel. Kyle Busch, who was running second at the time, took the lead. Busch would switch his engine off and on to conserve fuel. But he would run out on the last lap, which would lead to many other drivers running out of fuel. Busch, who won the past three races, and the past four of five races in the Sprint Cup Series, would finish a disappointing 21st place. Matt Kenneth would grab the victory.
  • Note: Busch must be in the Top-30 in points by the time the chase begins. Had Busch won today, he would have been in the Top-30 in points, which would have tied him with Jimmie Johnson for the top spot in the Chase Standings with 4 wins by each driver so far this season.

NASCAR XFINITY Series (US Cellular 250)
Race Winner: Ryan Blaney
Track: Iowa Speedway

Basic Notes:
  • Blane led 252 laps in the race.
  • Blaney rebounded from a miscue on the last lap in last week's NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway which cost him the victory.
  • This race was Kenny Wallace's last NASCAR race in his career. He would finish 15th after a long and great career where he had only one-career win in the NASCAR Cup, XFINITY, and Truck Series, yet he did so much for this sport.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (Pocono Mountains 150)
Race Winner: Kyle Busch
Track: Pocono Raceway

Basic Notes:
  • This was Busch's first race back in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series since his horrifying injury in the 2015 NASCAR XFINITY Series opener on February 21st, 2015 at Daytona international Speedway.
  • Busch won both races at Pocono Raceway this weekend (One in Sprint Cup Series, one in Truck Series).
