Garage Talk: Week 7/20 - 7/24

UNB! NETWORK STAFF REPORT

Johnson and Jr. Clinch Chase Spots
Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. both clinched spots in the 16-driver list for the 2015 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup this past weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Kevin Harvick clinched a spot the week before at Kentucky. Joey Logano has one win this season, and he has clinched a spot in the Top-30 in points. One requirement of being in the chase is that you are in the Top-30 in Sprint Cup points. However, Logano still has not clinched a Chase spot. Assuming there will be more than 16 different winners before the Chase, Logano may not make the list of 16 drivers. But, the odds of that happening are not too likely.

Almirola Passes Bowyer For Chase Spot
Aric Almirola's 15th place finish in the Sprint Cup at New Hampshire this weekend put him in the 16th spot for the Chase. He leads Clint Bowyer by two points for that spot.

Busch Still Hasn't Clinched A Spot
Even with his third win in the last four races, Kyle Busch is still not in the Top-30. He missed the first 11 races of this Sprint Cup season due to a leg injury he sustained in the 2015 NASCAR XFINITY Series opener at DAYTONA International Speedway on February 21st, 2015.

Right now, Busch is 33rd in points, 58 points outside the Top-30.

Going Off-Road
This coming Wednesday night at Eldora Speedway, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series stars will battle it out for 150 laps at the world-famous 0.5 mile dirt track Eldora in Rossburgh, Ohio.

31 drivers entered the race, and they all will be racing to win the race that Austin Dillon won in 2013, and Darrell Wallace in 2014, the 1-800 CarCash Mud Summer Classic.

Good luck to all Truck Series drivers competing in that race.

Hamlin's Effort Pulls Off
In this past Saturday's XFINITY Series race at New Hampshire, the Lakes Region 200, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin were involved in a crash early in the race. Neither driver had sustained damage to their cars, so they continued the race, but lost position due to the wreck and restarted in the back ofthe field. Both drivers quickly worked their way back up the field, and Hamlin wound up winning the race.

We hope you enjoyed the Garage Talk for this week!
