Holtz earns career-first ARCA Midwest Tour victory

TOLEDO, Ohio (June 13, 2016) – Jeff Holtz led the final 38 circuits Saturday night at Rockford Speedway to win the Kar Korner All-Star 100, and his career-first ARCA Midwest Tour race.

“I can’t believe it,” Holtz said. “It was a handful, but once I got by myself I was fine. I think Ty Majeski would’ve won if he didn’t get caught up in traffic, but I’ll take it. I’ll take it however I can get it,” added an exhausted, but very happy Holtz from victory lane.

Halfway through the 100-lap race, Majeski had a straightaway lead over Holtz, Ricky Baker, Trent Snyder, and Paul Shafer, Jr. However, it all changed when Majeski got tangled up with Chris Weinkauf, with both cars making contact with the turn three wall, ending Majeski’s chance to win back-to-back Kar Korner 100s.

Casey Johnson, Paul Shafer Jr, Ricky Baker and John Reynolds Jr. rounded out the top five, respectively.

ARCA/CRA Super Series
As a warm-up for the Battle at Berlin 251 Monday night (June 13), Senoia, Georgia’s Bubba Pollard made the trek north early, winning the Berlin 100 presented by Great Clips JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour race Saturday night at Berlin Raceway.

“I just love this place,” said Pollard in victory lane. “It was a good clean race, with a very talented field. I got more laps and some good notes that we hope will help us for Monday’s race.”

Saturday’s race was a preliminary event for the $15,000 to win Battle at Berlin 251 presented by Primera Plastics ARCA/CRA Super Series event at Berlin Monday night.

ARCA Truck Series
Shawn Szep won his third ARCA Truck Series race in a row, this one coming at Lake County Speedway in Painesville, Ohio in the Lincoln Welders 100 Saturday night.

“Each time we win one of these it feels great,” said the Marysville, Ohio resident, who has taken three consecutive checkered flags going back to the last race of 2015.

Flat Rock Speedway
A standing-room only crowd was treated to big night of action at Flat Rock Speedway Saturday night, where ARCA official and former Flat Rock Street Stock champion Jack Franzil rolled his bus twice, including coming to the checkered flag to claim the win in the School Bus Figure 8 grand finale race.

The ARCA Moran Chevrolet Late Models were on hand for their final tune-up race before the June 25 Diamond Racing Products Joy Fair Memorial 100. A great battle up front between Jimmy Thiel and Justin Schroeder resulted in Thiel earning the victory. Thiel held off Schroeder in lapped traffic over the final laps to secure the win. Schroeder finished second with Frankie Jiovani coming home third. Paul Pelletier was fourth and Stan Yee Jr. was fifth.

A sensational last-lap battle for the win saw Jeremy Vanderhoof edge out Greg Studt at the stripe to win the 20 lap ARCA Victory Lane Oil Change Figure 8 feature race. Third was Jeremy Miller followed by Billy Earley and Dennis Whisman.

Toledo Speedway
A night filled with some wild accidents and eventually great racing action highlighted the 16th Annual Fastest Short Track Show in the World Friday night at Toledo Speedway. Dave McKnight took the MSA Super Modified 50 lap win, while Ryan Gillenwater captured the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint 30 lap main. Both feature events came down to the wire in multi-car battles.

Two drivers and two spectators were injured Friday at Toledo. The spectators were struck by debris from an on-track accident in the frontstretch and were transported, treated and released from a local hospital. MSA Supermodified driver Kevin Shirey of Amherst Ohio went by private car to a care center and was treated and released. MSA Supermodified driver Zachary Gibson of Richwood Ohio was transported and admitted to a local hospital with vertebrae injuries. He is in the Intensive Care Unit in stable condition and is conscious, responsive and alert, and has movement in his extremities. He will remain under observation in ICU for at least the next 24 hours. Zachary Gibson’s condition will be updated periodically per his wishes.
