Sam Hornish, Jr. won Sunday's NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Iowa Speedway. |
Ty Dillon finished second in the runner-up position.
"The 18 was dominant on the bottom," Dillon said, "just need a little more speed."
Dillon was followed by Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez, Alex Bowman, Elliott Sadler, Justin Allgaier, Brennan Poole, Darrell Wallace, Jr., and Ben Kennedy, who was making his XFINITY debut.
"I thought maybe I could've run equal to Sam," Keselowski said, "but never got that shot."
Hornish lead 183 of the 250 laps. He was not originally scheduled to run the race. Joe Gibbs Racing selected him early in the week after back issues sidelined Matt Tifft.
"It doesn't get much better than that," Hornish said. "I can't tell you what this means."
Pole sitter Erik Jones had a fuel pickup problem early and had to go behind the wall to replace the fuel cell. He finished 27th.
There were 6 cautions for 33 laps and 10 lead changes among 4 leaders.
The average speed was 102.659 MPH.
The series next races at Daytona International Speedway on July 1 for the Subway Firecracker 250 powered by Coca-Cola (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN).
NOTES: The No. 1, 20, 22 cars went to rear pre-race for body modifications, while the Nos. 4, 62 to rear pre-race for unapproved adjustments.
