NEWTON, IOWA (July 31, 2016) – Brandon McReynolds entered Iowa Speedway with much excitement as he was back behind the wheel of the No. 24 JGL Racing Young Guns Toyota for the second time this season. That excitement vanished on lap 149 as a blown left rear tire would send Brandon and his Toyota hard into the turn one wall. The devastating incident would end Brandon’s night and relegate him to a disappointing 32nd place finish in the running of the US Cellular 250.
“Man, I really hate we had that tire failure – a really tough way to end the night,” said McReynolds. “Our No. 24 Toyota was getting better there in the second half of the race and I had moved around and worked on my line a little. I think we had a really good chance at a top-15 finish but an unlucky break prevented that from happening.”
Brandon would start the 250-lap event from the 18th position as a result of his qualifying effort earlier in the day. In the opening laps Brandon would radio his crew that his No. 24 Toyota wasn’t too bad and that he was moving around and trying different lines on the track. A couple of trips down pit road throughout the event would allow for some minor adjustments which helped McReynolds as he was knocking on the door of the top-15 with about 100 laps left in the race. Unfortunately the night would end abruptly and violently for Brandon as his left rear tire blew as he dove down into turn one sending the No. 24 Young Guns Toyota into the outside wall.
“I can’t thank everyone at JGL Racing enough for this opportunity to drive the No. 24 Toyota again,” added Brandon. “This was a great learning experience for me and one that I look forward to expanding on in the future.”
The NASCAR XFINITY Series will next head to Watkins Glen International for the first road course event of the season. The running of the Zippo 200 will be Saturday August 6th and can be seen LIVE on CNBC and NBC Sports Live Extra online at 2:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
