INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Garrett Smithley dreamed about racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as a kid.
Saturday the dream comes true.
Smithley will drive the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller No. 0 Chevrolet in Saturday’s Lilly Diabetes 250 at IMS.
“This is a very big deal for me,” Smithley said. “I’ve heard and read about Indy all my life. To get to race there is remarkable. We’ll give it our best shot.”
Smithley sits 17th in Xfinity Series driver points entering the race.
Practice at the giant IMS track is scheduled at noon and 3 p.m. Friday. Qualifying is set for 11:40 a.m. Saturday.
A pair of 20-lap heats (the first scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Saturday) will set the lineup for the 5:05 p.m. feature.
