RICHMOND, VA – Racing under the lights at Richmond International Raceway, JJ Yeley secures a 20th place finish in the Virginia 529 College Savings 250.
The Zachry Toyota unloaded strong and finished practice in the fourth position. During qualifying, Yeley relayed the Zachry Toyota did not have any grip resulting in a 23rd position placement in the starting line up for the Virginia 529 College Savings 250. By lap four, Yeley communicated the Zachry Toyota was tight in the corner and loose off. Running 25th, a caution on lap 48, allowed the opportunity to pit for much needed adjustments.
"Not the night we were looking for in Richmond," Yeley said. "My Zachry Toyota felt pretty decent in practice. I didn't have the speed I hoped for Qualifying and struggled at the beginning of the race. Contact with one of my competitors cost me extra track position. After pitting and getting some fresh rubber the car felt better and had good speed but we had already given up to much and were relegated to a 20th place finish."
Yeley returned to the field and consistently ran in the 21st and 22nd position while continuing to battle a loose in, tight center and loose off condition. During a long green flag run, Crew Chief Frank Kerr called Yeley to pit the Zachry Toyota for four tires, fuel and track bar adjustment cycling back into the field 29th. Though the Zachry Toyota continued to be loose, Yeley steadily worked his way up to 20th and maintained that position throughout the remainder of the 250 lap event.
