Bank of America 500: My thoughts about the Drivers
by Nick Stodal
The 1st race of the Contender Round is over. Joey Logano won the Bank of America 500 and will advance into the next round. Here are my thoughts about the most important drivers of the race:
Joey Logano:
After a caution, Joey Logano started from the 1st spot and started leading the race. After he took the lead, the #22 car started dominating the race and at the end he won the race.
Joey did everything right in this race and had a very strong car. He really deserves the win with 227 lead laps and if he is also strong in the next races, I think he will fight for the Championship in the last round of the Chase.
Kevin Harvick:
Kevin Harvick was a little bit invisible in this race. He finishes the race on a very good 2nd race and has a good chance to go to the next round.
I was a little bit suprised about Harvick. I thought he would drive his way to the front but Logano was so fast that Harvick had no chance to get him. At the end it was a good 2nd place finish for him and I think he has a very good chance to defend his title because he was so constant in the last races.
Matt Kenseth:
Matt started at the pole of the race and led at the beginning of the race. But after some bad pit stops he felt back and had to fight in the middle of the pack. The result of this: Kenseth hitted the wall after contact with Ryan Newman and his race was over.
I think after he felt back, Kenseth drove to hard and to risky. The race wasn't even halfway and maybe he should've shown more patience. But I also think, that he can win in the next race because he had a really strong car on the track.
Dale Earnhardt Jr:
At the beginning of the race, Dale looked very strong. He drove in the top Ten every time in the race until he had contact with Carl Edwards and hitted the wall. The result: A tire went down and Dales race was almost over and finished the race on 28th.
So Dale (and also Kenseth) are in a really tricky situation. He looked really good at the track and he has also a good race car. So if he drives at the next to tracks like in Charlotte, he will also advance to the next round. (and we all know how strong he is at Talladega)
Kyle Busch:
The #18 car had with his 2nd place a good starting position and also a strong race. But after he had contact with Kyle Larson, his day was almost over. Kyle had damage at his car and felt back. He fought back in the race to a strong 20th place finish.
In my opinion, Kyle had a very good race and drove very good. But at the pit stop it was also a little bit his fault because he decided to stay out. At the end you can say he had a little bit bad luck and it will be very interesting if he can fight back again, like he did in Dover.
Kyle Larson:
Kyle Larson was also very very good at Charlotte. After starting from 31st he fought his way to the front and drove a long time in the Top 10. But at the end, he crashed with Kyle Busch under a caution and his good position was gone. He finished 21st.
For me Kyle Larson was the most suprised driver of the race. He came out of nowhere and drove into the Top 10. It's bad that he made this little mistake under the caution but hopefully he has a strong race like this again.
Jimmie Johnson:
After being eliminated from the 1st round of the Chase, Jimmie started on 7th at Charlotte where he won 7 times. His car had very strong pace and he drove in the Top 5 all day long. But like in Dover, Jimmie got a problem with his car and needed to go to the garage. The #48 car finished the race on 39th.
Jimmie had now 2 times bad luck in a race. He drove very good at both races in my opinion but it went everytime wrong. I think the Hendrick Motorsports crew should take a closer look at their cars and if they do, I think Jimmie can finish this race on 1st or 2nd and could've still been a driver who drives for the Championship
These are my most important drivers of the "Bank of America 500"
