The NASCAR XFINITY Series champion will be replacing Jeff Gordon in the No. 24 car when Gordon retires from racing at the end of this season.
NAPA Auto Parts will serve as the primary sponsor of Elliott's main paint scheme.
"We are just so excited about this young man," said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, which fields the No. 24 Chevrolet.
Elliott couldn't be more excited either. "(The) 24 team in particular has a lot of great guys," Elliott said, referring especially to crew chief Alan Gustafson, who is returning for next year's season.
"If I can do my job, we might have a shot there," Elliott also said, referring to the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
"(Jeff) thinks the world about this guy," Hendrick said, going on to say that Gordon would undoubtredly serve as a mentor for Elliott and the three other Hendrick Motorsports drivers in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Chase Elliott will be starting the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season in Jeff Gordon's No. 24 Chevrolet, but it won't have the same look that we're used to seeing on the car.
"Next February will be quite the feeling," Elliott said last night in his paint scheme unveiling.
