Corey LaJoie Caught Up in Early Big One at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA (July 3, 2016) – Corey LaJoie was eager to return to the driver’s seat of the No. 24 youtheory Toyota and make his debut at the Daytona International Speedway.

However, that excitement was diminished early in the 250-mile race as LaJoie was collected in “The Big One” on lap 16.  While he did return to the track after a short visit to the garage area for repairs, he was relegated to a disappointing 30th place finish in the running of the Subway Firecracker 250 at “The World Center of Speed”.

“That was very disappointing,” said LaJoie.  “Our No. 24 youtheory Toyota was pretty strong and I was just riding and getting comfortable with the draft.  You expect the Big One to happen every time out at Daytona but not that early in the race.  It all happened in front of me and I was down in the grass trying to work my way through but everything seemed to wash down right in front of me and I had nowhere to go.”

LaJoie would start the 100-lap event from the 10th position as a result of his career best qualifying effort earlier in the day.  When the green flag flew, Corey would begin his crash course on drafting in impressive fashion.  He would stay around the top-10 as he gained that valuable experience in his restrictor plate debut.  Unfortunately, things would quickly change as a spin at the front of the field would create “The Big One” and collected the No. 24 youtheory Toyota.  Relegated to the garage for necessary repairs, LaJoie would return to the track and gain further valuable experience despite the disappointing finish.

“I want to thank youtheory and everyone at JGL Racing,” added Corey.  “It was a lot of fun racing at Daytona and being back behind the wheel of this No. 24 youtheory Toyota.  We will set our sights on our next race and I know the guys on this JGL Racing team will give me another fast car.”

LaJoie will return to the seat of the No. 24 youtheory Toyota in two weeks at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the running of the AutoLotto 200 on Saturday July 16th.
JGL Release.
