Hurricane Hermine blew through the Darlington area on Friday of the “throwback” race weekend, cancelling all on-track activity for the day. Instead of the qualifying which was scheduled for Saturday, NASCAR gave the teams two practice sessions lining up the field by driver point standings.
Biffle had a fast Hooters Ford from the drop of the green flag and with a little tweaking on his chassis for handling was turning solid lap times. A caution early on came out just a few laps after Biffle had visited pit road. The unlucky caution trapped Biffle one lap down to the field.
As the race progressed Biffle kept narrowly missing being the “lucky dog” recipient with each caution. Just as Biffle did maneuver his way into position to receive the “lucky dog,” he was tagged from behind and sent into the outside wall. Repairs were attempted on pit road, but shortly after Biffle returned to the track he realized more work was needed.
Biffle drove the Hooters Ford to the garage for repairs and was able to return to the track for quite a few laps before ending his night early. Despite all the hard work from the team, Biffle was left with a 36th-place finish.
