UNB! NETWORK STAFF REPORT
This Sunday, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to Bowmanville, Ontario in Canada to race at Canadian Tire Motorports Park.
Quite a few drivers are going to be making their first Truck Series starts this weekend, and one of those drivers, who is actually making his second Trucks start, may seem familiar to you because of their XFINITY Series experience.
Alex Tagliani
Tagliani will be driving Brad Keselowski Racing's No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150. Tagliani's most recent NASCAR race was two weekends ago in the NASCAR XFINITY Series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, where he would finish 2nd to Regan Smith. Tagliani, a road course ringer, will be makimg his second Truck Series start in this race. His first Trucks race was last year at this track in the No. 19 Reese Towpower Ford F-150, where he would win the pole with a lap of 80.558 seconds, which was 0.433 seconds better than the second place starter.
Daniel Brown
When Englishman Daniel Brown slides behind the wheel of the #63 Brown & Geeson Chevy Silverado of MB Motorsports for the Chevrolet Silverado 250 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, it will be a little different than the Aston Martins, Ferrari's and BMW's he is used to racing across the pond. Brown has been quite successful in British GT, FIA GT3 and GT Open, as well as the Blancpain Endurance Series and Historic Racing events among many others. "I am really excited for this opportunity to race in the NCWTS with MB Motorsports and have to say a big thank you to Mike Mittler for trusting me to drive the truck at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park," says Brown. "I have primarily driven GT sports cars in Europe, so the truck is certainly going to be a very different animal to tame. There are some big names taking part in this event, so I am under no illusions that it is going to be tough and will involve a very steep learning curve, but if I keep out of trouble and listen to all the advice Mike and the team can give me, then I hope we will be able to achieve a strong result."
Brian Wong
Highlighting a busy summer of racing for the Californian, Brian Wong and World Stage Racing are pleased to announce their entry in to the next phase of the program's development, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Partnering with the renowned Venturini Motorsports, the program will debut at this weekend's Chevrolet Silverado 250 at the famed Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Canada. Continuing the team's ethos of exploring new avenues for marketing and engagement, the team's Toyota Tundra will also debut a new partnership with Momofuku. Continuing World Stage Racing's tradition of engaging unique brands and non-traditional forms of partnership, the team's alignment with Momofuku provides a perfect symbol of the effort. Established by chef and founder David Chang in 2004 with the opening of Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku has grown to include restaurants in New York City, Sydney and Toronto. Momofuku has a total of nine restaurants (Noodle Bar, Ssa m Bar, Ko, Ma Pe che, Seio bo, Noodle Bar Toronto, Daisho , Sho to , Fuku), a sister bakery with multiple locations throughout New York City and in Toronto (Milk Bar), two bars (Booker and Dax, Nikai), and a Culinary Lab. While this will be Wong's first race in Truck Series competition, the 26-year old will have the benefit of vast road racing experience combined with excellent support from Venturini Motorsports in the No. 25 Momofuku Toyota Tundra. While the series normally runs 22 of their 23 events on oval tracks, the visit to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will be the lone visit to a road course for the year. Seen as a road course specialist, including being the first Chinese American to see a podium in the American Le Mans Series as well as first Chinese American to earn a podium in ARCA Series competition, Brian is hoping his experience in "turning right" will play to his favor.
