UNB! NETWORK STAFF REPORT
Michigan/Mid-Ohio Tires
This weekend, even in the midst of a new aero package, Goodyear will be providing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams with the regular tires that teams normally run at Michigan.
But the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series drivers will be noticing something different.
Those teams will be using the fire build that was ran in the truck series earlier this season at Kansas Speedeay.
The NASCAR XFINITY Series teams are at Mid-Ohio this weekend. The tires being ran in that series will be the same tire build that has been ran at Mid-Ohio since 2013.
XFINITY Series teams will also be given wet weather tired in case there is inclement weather during this weekend's race.
Cup Michigan Aero Changes
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will be running a high-drag aero package this weekend at Kansas Speedway.
The aero changes for this weekend include: A 9-inch spoiler on the rear decks of cars (normally is 6 inches), a 1-inch wicket bill, a rear fascia extention panel normally used at Superspeedway events, a 2-inch leading edge on the splitter, and a 43-inch splitter extention panel (radiator pan)
"The original (aero) package ... was for Michigan; we had built this package specifically for Michigan and then worked to implement it into Indianapolis," Steve O'Donnell, Executive Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer for NASCAR, told NASCAR.com on Tuesday. "We feel comfortable with the package we have set up ... but we certainly learned some things at Indy.
"If we can improve the car in a more efficient manner, then we're going to do that. We've talked to teams about what gear ratio should be implemented, and we'll have some adjustments potentially for Michigan, and then that dialogue will continue Friday (at the track)."
